The Official Rules To “Funnel Ball”

I don’t know about your school days, but when I was younger we always wondered what these things were. Eventually we just decided our school was too poor to buy actual hoops and played basketball with it. “Funnel Ball” is a real game, however, and while there are some variations…there is an official rule set!

The game begins with each team or person agreeing on a set amount of points to play to either counting up or down. That’s what the numbers on each side dictate, the number of points you can get. Teams is the preferred method, but most people play “every man for himself” which is also acceptable. Players can dribble, pass, and shoot much like basketball, but with more of a curve towards less athletic kids since the point values are random.

So why not play basketball? Apparently this game was invented to help kids learn their math skills. The kids are encouraged to keep score and are challenged with the varying point values. It’s also a game that is not difficult for kids of all ages to play and enjoy!

So there you go. Next time someone pulls out a basketball at the park find a funnel ball hoop and educate them!
