Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s January 27th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting the day in 1980, as this would be the day AC/DC played what would be their final show with singer Bon Scott. Scott would die a month later from alcohol poisoning.
We lost Floyd Sneed of Three Dog Night in 2023 at the age of 80
In 1977, The Clash signed with CBS Records for $100,000. The extremely anti-establishment group fought claims of selling out and released their self-titled debut just three months later.
A new rock band performs for the first time on this day in 1979 as Keith Morris, Gregg Ginn, Chuck Dukowski, and Brian Migdol come together as Black Flag.
Moving into today’s birthdays, we have Nick Mason of Pink Floyd!
Other birthdays include Seth Justman of The J. Geils Band, Janick Gers of Iron Maiden and Brian Downey of Thin Lizzy!
As well as Gillian Gilbert of New Order and Mike Patton of Faith No More!
We saw the release of Van Morrison’s Moondance in 1970
On that same day in 1970, one of the fastest-released songs in rock history was written, recorded and mixed. The song was John Lennon’s Instant Karma! and would arrive in record stores just 10 days later.
And finally in 1973, while performing at the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock, Scotland, glam rock group Sweet were driven offstage by a barrage of glass bottles thrown from the crowd. This incident would inspire what would be the band’s biggest song Ballroom Blitz!
