Today in Rock History – January 25

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s January 25th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

It’s a very slow day today. We don’t even have birthdays or releases to talk about! A rarity for TIRH!

So beginning the day in 1978, Joy Division made their live stage debut at Pips Disco in Manchester, England.

While driving in Long Island in 2003, Billy Joel crashed his Mercedes. Joel would later say the accident was caused by a “mental fog” he was dealing with brought on by relationship issues and depression from the September 11th attacks a few years prior.

In 1991, Paul McCartney appeared on MTV Unplugged, and later that year in June, he became the first artist to release an album of the performance.

That’s not the only thing to feature Sir Paul today, as on this day in 1980, he was released and deported from Japan after spending nine days in a Tokyo jail for bringing 219 grams of pot into the country.

And finally, a bit of local flair, as on this day in 1974, Led Zeppelin played the Market Square Arena to over 17,000 fans. Tickets were just $8.50.
