Today in Rock History – January 18

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s January 18th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting today with Jonathan Davis of Korn’s birthday!

In 1974, the supergroup Bad Company formed in 1974. Consisting of members from Free (Paul Rodgers & Simon Kirke), Mott The Hoople (Mick Ralphs) and King Crimson (Boz Burrell), the band would go on to see great success in the 1970s.

We lost Glenn Fey of the Eagles in 2016 at the age of 67 from complications with rheumatoid arthritis, colitis, and pneumonia

We also lost David Crosby of The Byrds and Crosby Stills & Nash in 2023 at the age of 81

In 1991, during an AC/DC concert in Salt Lake City, three teens were crushed to death in the crowd. After a few songs, the band become aware of the tragedy and promptly end the show at the request of the fire marshal.

Moving onto releases now with The Whitey Album from Sonic Youth in 1989 and Cuts Like a Knife from Bryan Adams in 1983!

Other releases include Blow Up Your Video from AC/DC in 1988, two Social Distortion albums Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes in 2011 and Prison Bound in 1988, and Excitable Boy from Warren Zevon in 1978!

And finally in 1981, Wendy O. Williams of The Plasmatics was arrested on stage in Milwaukee. She was charged with the offence of… “simulating intercourse with a sledgehammer.” Huh. Williams later filed a multimillion dollar civil suit against the arresting officers, claiming that they sexually assaulted her during the arrest. The jury rejected the claims and the charges against Wendy O. were dropped.
