Today in Rock History – January 15

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s January 15th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting off in 1992, the 7th Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place, featuring inductees The Yardbirds, Johnny Cash, the Isley Brothers, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Birthdays today features Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd!

Other birthdays include Duke Erikson of Garbage, Captain Beefheart, and Adam Jones of Tool!

With releases we got Back in The USA from the MC5 in 1970 and a year prior, we got Bayou Country from Creedence Clearwater Revival!

We lost Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries in 2018 at the age of 46 after accidentally drowning in her bathtub following sedation by alcohol intoxication.

And finally in 2024, Elton John won the Emmy award for his TV special Elton John: Farewell From Dodger Stadium. This award would help John become an EGOT winner, only achievable when someone wins all four of the major American art awards (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony).
