Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s November 25th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting the day in 1976, as The Band’s final performance aka The Last Waltz took place at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. Guests for the show included Neil Young, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton. The concert was recorded and filmed and both a live album and documentary were later released in April 1978. The concert film/documentary is now highly regarded as one of the greatest concert films of all time.
We got Eric Clapton’s Slowhand in 1977!
The Beatles: Get Back documentary series was released in 2021!
With birthdays, we have Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees and Queens of the Stone Age!
Other birthdays include Tim Armstrong of Rancid and Bev Bevan of Electric Light Orchestra!
In 2007, Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot was found dead in his home in Las Vegas six days after overdosing on a combination of cocaine, sleeping pills, painkillers, and alcohol.
And finally in 1996, a 10-feet tall statue paying tribute to Queen frontman Freddie Mercury overlooking Lake Geneva in Montreux, Switzerland was unveiled where it still sits to this day. The statue can also be seen on the cover of Queen’s album Made in Heaven, which was released a year prior to the unveiling.
