Today in Rock History – November 9

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s November 9th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

In 1967, the first issue of Rolling Stone magazine (back then looking more like a newspaper) was published, only costing just 35 cents. The magazine featured articles about The Who, David Crosby, and John Lennon (who featured on the cover). The cover became such a badge of honor, that Dr. Hook wanted to be on the cover.

With releases, we got Billy Joel’s highly acclaimed Piano Man in 1973!

Other releases include Alanis Morissette’s MTV Unplugged record in 1999, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs from Derek & the Dominoes in 1970,

As well as Muse’s Simulation Theory in 2018 and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers debut album in 1976!

It’s Tom Fogerty of CCR’s birthday today!

In 1968, Led Zeppelin played their first London gig at a club called The Roundhouse. Fun fact, singer Robert Plant and his first wife, Maureen, held their wedding reception there the same night.

And finally in 2006, at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom, David Bowie performed on stage for the final time. Bowie performed just three songs at a benefit event for the Keep a Child Alive charity. Those being Wild Is the Wind, Fantastic Voyage, and Changes.
