Today in Rock History – November 2nd

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s November 2nd and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day with releases, as in 1982 we got Long After Dark from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers!

Other releases include No Control from Bad Religion in 1989, Disraeli Gears by Cream in 1967, Post-Apocalypto from Tenacious D in 2018, and Outlandos d’Amour from The Police in 1978!

In 1999, we got both There Is Nothing Left to Lose from the Foo Fighters and The Battle of Los Angeles by Rage Against the Machine.

In 2023, the final Beatles song Now and Then was released. Using an unfinished John Lennon demo from 1978 and a 1995 attempt during the recording sessions for The Beatles Anthology that was originally abandoned due to technical issues, the song was completed with the help of vocal isolation AI tech used during the making of The Beatles: Get Back documentary series.

And our last release of the day came in 2018, as the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody released in theaters. Starring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, the film (now divisive among Queen fans) would go on to win four Oscars, including Best Actor for Malek.

In 2018, the widow of Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell announced that she would be suing his doctor for ‘negligence and repeatedly’ prescribing the singer ‘dangerous mind-altering controlled substances’ which ultimately led to the singer’s death a year prior.

In 1974, George Harrison became the first Beatle to tour solo as he began his Dark Horse tour. The tour doesn’t go well for Harrison, who doesn’t travel well in the first place, and it becomes the last time he tours until 1991.

With Birthdays today we have Bobby Dall of Poison and Reginald Arvizu aka Fieldy of Korn!

And finally in 1978, Alice Cooper appeared on The Muppet Show not only to perform, but to offer the Muppets fame and fortune if they signed their souls over to him. Typical Alice, am I right?
