Today in Rock History – October 16th

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 16th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day with birthdays as it’s Michael Balzary’s birthday! You may know him better as Flea.

Other birthdays include Nico of the Velvet Underground, Bob Weir of Grateful Dead and Chad Gray of Mudvayne

In 1968, we got the third and final album from the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Electric Ladyland

We also got Ignition from The Offspring in 1992.

We spoke a little bit about it yesterday, but in 2006 CBGB officially closed it doors for good after 33 years of operation and helping create the US side of the punk rock movement.

CCR broke up in 1972 just months after the release of their failing 7th album Mardi Gras and a year after founding member Tom Fogerty left the group. Tom’s brother John would see success as a solo artist and the band would never fully rejoin as Tom would die in September of 1990.

This has been Today in Rock History! Keep on Rocking, keep on Rolling! Check back tomorrow for your next rock history lesson!
