Today in Rock History – October 13th

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 13th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day with birthdays as we have the amazing Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel

Other birthdays include Joey Belladonna of Anthrax and Sammy Hagar

The Jimi Hendrix Experience made their in person debut in Normandy, France in 1966

We have one release today, as in 1978, AC/DC released If You Want Blood You’ve Got It! This would be their first live album and the band’s only live album to feature Bon Scott on lead vocals.

In 2002, Muse took legal action against singer Celine Dion after Dion announced her upcoming Vegas show would be called Muse. Muse’s lead singer Matt Bellamy said “We don’t want anyone to think we’re Celine Dion’s backing band.”

Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016

And finally, the first Bridge School benefit concert takes place in 1986. The all-acoustic concert was in support of the non-profit institution that provides education for children with verbal and physical disabilities. The school was co-founded by that year’s headliner Neil Young and his wife Pegi after their son, Ben, was born with cerebral palsy. Also performing that night were Bruce Springsteen, Don Henley of the Eagles, Tom Petty and a reunited Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The benefit show would return each year until 2017.
