Today in Rock History – October 11th

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 11th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day as always with releases, as we got Korn’s self titled debut in 1994!

Other releases include Point of Know Return from Kansas in 1977, Five Finger Death Punch’s American Capitalist in 2011 and Billy Joel’s 52nd Street in 1978!

In 1999, Tommy Lee of Motley Crue was released on $5000 bail after facing charges relating to a riot he allegedly incited during a show in North Carolina in 1997. Lee allegedly incited the crowd to attack a security guard and poured a drink on the guard’s head.

Dave Grohl played his first show with Nirvana at the North Shore Surf Club in Olympia, Washington in 1990.

And finally in 2018, the Music Modernization Act is passed into law. It would clarify how artists, songwriters and producers would be compensated for music played on streaming services, and online and satellite radio. The act would also grant royalties for songs written prior to 1972. Here’s an album that just barely missed that 1972 window the first time. Any excuse to play Bowie, right?
