Today in Rock History – October 8th

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 8th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Beginning the day with an amazing list of releases, starting with Soundgarden’s Badmotorfinger in 1991!

We also got the live album Cheap Trick at Budokan in 1978, Marilyn Manson’s Antichrist Superstar in 1996, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ The Last DJ in 2002 and Remain in Light from the Talking Heads in 1980!

In 1988, Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon enters its final week of its historic 741-week run on the Billboard 200 Albums chart after originally releasing back in 1973

It’s Johnny Ramone’s and C. J. Ramone’s birthday today! Can you guess which band they were in?

In 1987, the three original members of ZZ Top made advance bookings for the first passenger flight to the Moon. Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard are still waiting on confirmation, while Dusty Hill will not be able to make it.

We lost both Gidget Gein of Marilyn Manson in 2008 and Mikey Welsh of Weezer in 2011. Both died of a drug overdose, Gein aged 39 and Welsh aged 40

And finally in 1990, Eddie Vedder flies from San Diego to Seattle to meet the members of his new band Pearl Jam for the first time. They began recording the bulk of what would become their debut album, Ten.
