Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 4th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting off on a sad note, as we lost the Queen of Psychedelic Soul, Janis Joplin in 1970 from a heroin overdose. She was just 27.
The 1996 comedy music film That Thing You Do! was released in theaters. The film followed the fictional 60’s rock band The Wonders, their meteoric rise to fame to stardom, and the issues that arise from sudden stardom. The super catchy title track for the film was written by Fountains of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger and damn is it a good song.
We also got Nickelback’s best selling album, 2005’s All the Right Reasons
In 2015, Van Halen played what would be their final ever public show together at the Hollywood Bowl. The band would officially disband in 2020 after the death of guitarist Eddie Van Halen.
In 1994, Sting’s financial advisor Keith Moore was charged with stealing $5 million from the rock star.
And finally in 2019, the DC supervillain film Joker became the first film to use UK glam rock singer and convicted pedophile Gary Glitter’s jock jam Rock and Roll Part 2 since Glitter’s 2015 conviction. This caused outrage in the UK due to the royalties Glitter would receive from the song’s use.
