Today in Rock History – September 14

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s September 14th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting our day off strong with releases, as we got Painkiller from Judas Priest in 1990!

Other releases include: Arcade Fire’s debut record Funeral in 2004, both Counting Crows’ August and Everything After and Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell by Meat Loaf in 1993 and Jet’s debut record Get Born in 2003!

In 2008, Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson became one of many pilots to fly special charter flights after 85,000 tourists were left stranded around the world after Britain’s third largest tour operator, XL Leisure closes suddenly.

With birthdays, we have Craig Montoya of Everclear, Mark Webber of Pulp, Fred “Sonic” Smith of MC5, and Ed King and Steve Gaines, both of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

And finally, the very first MTV Video Music awards took place in New York City in 1984. Video of the Year was awarded to David Bowie for the China Girl music video.
