Today in Rock History – September 12

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s September 12th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day off right as it’s “The Professor” Neil Peart’s birthday!

Moving onto releases now and we’ve got a huge list for today. Starting off with the fantastic Wish You Were Here from Pink Floyd in 1975!

Other releases include Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) by David Bowie in 1980, Lenny Kravitz’s Circus in 1995 and Aerosmith’s Pump in 1989.

As well as Eric Clapton’s From the Candle in 1994, Magic Potion by The Black Keys in 2006 and Death Magnetic by Metallica in 2008!

We also got the Almost Famous soundtrack in 2000, featuring songs by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, Yes, and Elton John.

In 1993, Garbage found their new lead singer while watching MTV’s alt music showcase 120 Minutes, when the show played the video for Angelfish’s song Suffocate Me. Angelfish’s singer Shirley Manson took the offer and moved from Scotland to Wisconsin and the band took over the alternative scene!

We lost Johnny Cash in 2003

And finally in 2007, the three surviving members of Led Zeppelin announced they would reform for a tribute concert at London’s O2 Arena to remember the late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones would be joined by Zeppelin’s late drummer John Bonham’s son, Jason.
