Today in Rock History – September 4

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s September 4th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

We talked about it yesterday but it was on this day in 2001 we got System of a Down’s Toxicity!

We also got Revelations from Audioslave in 2006

In 1965, while at a dog shelter buying a guard dog, The Who’s van is broken into with $10,000 worth of equipment stolen.

We lost David Brown of Santana in 2000 and Steve Harwell of Smash Mouth in 2023. Play the funny song!

Moving onto birthdays now, we have: Blackie Lawless of W.A.S.P., Martin Chambers of The Pretenders, Lacey Sturm of Flyleaf, and Kim Thayil of Soundgarden

In 2022, a US judge dismissed a lawsuit against Nirvana over the cover of their 1991 album, Nevermind. The man, 31-year-old Spencer Elden, was the baby on the cover of said album and his lawsuit claimed he had been sexually exploited due to his appearance on the cover. The judge did not agree.

And finally, at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards, Van Halen appeared alongside original frontman David Lee Roth for the first time in 11 years to present an award. The reunion was short lived as a month later the band announced Gary Cherone as their new lead singer. The band went on to release just one album with Cherone before reuniting with Roth in 2007.
