Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s September 1st and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting off in 1995, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum opened in Cleveland. To celebrate the open, the next day an all-star concert took place featuring a variety of artists in Rock’s history!
Moving onto releases we got Special Forces from Alice Cooper in 1981 and Cheap Trick’s In Color in 1977.
In 1988, the Rock N’ Roll Cuisine cookbook is published, featuring 95 recipes from various musicians of the time, including Don Henley of the Eagles’ chili recipe, Mick Jagger’s shrimp curry, and Weird Al’s PB&J sandwich. Weird Al and food. How fitting.
Moving onto Birthdays, we have Tom Peloso of Modest Mouse and Joe Trohman of Fall Out Boy!
In 1983, Mick Jones was fired from The Clash, after the other three members claimed Jones had “drifted apart” from the original idea of the band. Whatever that means…
We lost Jimi Jamison of Survivor in 2014.
And finally, Billie Joe Armstrong was thrown off a Southwest plane in 2011. The reason? Because his pants were too low. The Green Day frontman took to Twitter to voice his complaint. After the tweet was shared around the internet, Southwest released a statement apologizing for the incident.
