Today in Rock History – August 20

Starting off with birthdays and it’s a DAMN good day for birthdays! First we have Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin!

We also have Dimebag Darrell of Pantera!

AND Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit!

Other birthdays include Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy and Mikey Shoes of Queens of the Stone Age

Singer Bryan Adams was named as the reason for an English man’s divorce in 2004. The man had to deal with his wife’s obsessive behavior for Adams, noting having to live with posters and a 6ft cut-out of Adams standing at the foot of the couple’s bed.

We got Turn on the Bright Lights from Interpol in 2002

We lost Frankie Banali of Quiet Riot in 2020 and Matt Roberts of 3 Doors Down in 2016

In 2016, The Tragically Hip played their final show ever in front of a sold out crowd in their hometown of Kingston, Ontario. The show came months after the band announced that frontman Gord Downie had terminal brain cancer. The concert was broadcasted across Canada to more than 11.7 million people with viewing events around the country. The show was later released as The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration.

And finally in 2012, Green Day released a version of Angry Birds, featuring the band members as green pigs. By beating the 10th level of the game, players would unlock a new Green Day song. That song:
