Today in Rock History – August 15

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s August 15th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

The first day of the original Woodstock Festival began on this day in 1969. 400,000 fans traveled to Bethel, New York for what was billed as “Three Days of Peace & Music” with music beginning in the late afternoon and lasting ’til the early hours of the next day. The event featured performances from many artists of the era, including Grateful Dead, CCR, The Who, and, of course, Jimi Hendrix

And speaking of Jimi, 31 years later in 2000, the Hendrix estate acquires the URL to jimihendrix.com, a domain that was being used by someone selling email addresses since 1996

And finally in 1998, Day 2 of the A Day in the Garden festival takes place in Bethel, New York, the home of the original Woodstock. On the bill includes Pete Townshend of The Who, Lou Reed of The Velvet Underground, Joni Mitchell and other original Woodstock acts.
