Today in Rock History – June 19

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s June 19th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting off with birthdays, it’s Brian “Head” Welch of KORN’s birthday!

Other birthdays include Simon Wright formerly of AC/DC and DIO and Ann Wilson of Heart!

We lost Duane Roland of Molly Hatchet in 2006

In 1987, Motley Crue began their Girls, Girls, Girls tour in Arizonia. The show featured loads of pyro, an inflatable Harley-Davidson and a contraption that spun Tommy Lee and his drum kit while he played. Whitesnake were the opening act, but later on in the tour, a small time band took the slot. That band was Guns N’ Roses.

And speaking of GNR, on that same day in 1987, the band made their live debut in the UK at the Marquee Club in London. When the band began playing, they were pelted by the audience with plastic beer cups. Some close to the stage spat on the band. Tickets for the sold-out show cost only £4 ($4.33).

In 1973, The Rocky Horror Show debuts at London’s Royal Court Theatre. The musical would later start a run on Broadway and then be adapted into the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

And finally in 1972, the US Supreme Court rules in favor of John Sinclair, manager of MC5 and member of the White Panthers, that made it illegal for the government to use wiretapping without a warrant. How the manager of MC5 became associated with the White Panthers? I’ll never understand it.
