Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s May 19th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Today may seem like a slow one, but it features some heavy hitters for releases and birthdays! Starting off on the release side of things, we have One More Light from Linkin Park! Yes, I know Linkin Park fans aren’t huge fans of this record, but it still has some significance as this would be the final album before the death of singer Chester Bennington.
And I said we had heavy hitters and that begins now as we got The Who’s rock opera Tommy in 1969! It’s also Who guitarist Pete Townshend’s birthday today!
One final release as we got Animal Boy from the Ramones in 1986. Oh and we have another birthday on the same day as an album release as it’s Joey Ramone’s birthday! Two in one day? Nice!
We aren’t done with this killer day for birthdays, as we also have Dusty Hill of ZZ Top, Phil Rudd of AC/DC and Mike D’Antonio of Killswitch Engage!
And finally in 1996, The Simpsons episode “Homerpalooza” premieres on FOX. The episode features guest spots from groups Sonic Youth, Peter Frampton, Cypress Hill, and the Smashing Pumpkins
Since this episode was so good, I just had to include another clip. Cue the London Symphony Orchestra!
This has been Today in Rock History! Keep on Rocking, keep on Rolling! Check back tomorrow for your next rock history lesson!
