Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s March 28th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting off strong with releases as on this day in rock history, we got Houses of the Holy from Zeppelin in 1973
We also got Even If and Especially When from Screaming Trees in 1987, A.M. from Wilco in 1995, and The Division Bell by Pink Floyd in 1994
We ALSO got the 2007 film Chapter 27‘s wide release in 2008. Starring Thirty Seconds to Mars front man, and occasional acting madman, Jared Leto playing Mark David Chapman and depicts his mental state before he assassinated Beatle John Lennon in 1980.
Only one birthday today, and that belongs to Dave Keuning of The Killers
In 2000, Jimmy Page accepted an undisclosed, yet substantial, amount of libel damages from Ministry magazine that claimed Page had caused/contributed to the death of Zeppelin bandmate John Bonham. The magazine printed a claim the year prior that Page was more concerned with keeping vomit off his bed. It also claimed that Page stood over Bonham’s body in Satanist robes and performed a spell to help save him.
In 1982, David Crosby, on his way to a “No-Nukes” rally, crashed his car into a divider on the San Diego Freeway. Police would find in the car: Quaaludes, cocaine paraphernalia, and a pistol. Instead of being charged for carrying, he would reached a plea bargain and was charged with reckless driving. He was sentenced to probation and fined $751. When asked why he carried his pistol, he simply replied: “John Lennon”. Crosby would be arrested a few weeks later for freebasing cocaine.
And finally in 1964, on a more random note, Heavyweight boxing champ Cassius Clay (AKA Muhammad Ali) hits #102 in the US charts with his cover of Stand By Me.
