Today in Rock History – February 15th

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s February 15th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Bit of a slow one today but we’re starting with releases. Starting off with Burn from Deep Purple (1974) and the debut album from Godsmack: All Wound Up… (1997)

Yes, I know Voodoo was on Godsmack’s self titled album in ’98 but that was their major label debut and All Wound Up… had released independently a year prior. I guess you can call Godsmack an Indie Band? …I’ll see myself out.

Moving onto birthdays, we have Ronnie Vannucci Jr of The Killers; Brooks Wackerman of Avenged Sevenfold and formerly of Bad Religion; and Brandon Boyd of Incubus.

In 1988, a Def Leppard show as cancelled in El Paso after receiving threats from the locals because singer Jo Elliot used some really derogatory language about the city and Mexicans. Yeah it was rough.

And finally in 1977, Glenn Matlock was fired as bass player for the Sex Pistols and was replaced by Sid Vicious. He would later rejoin the band in the 90’s when they reformed.
