While the NFL has rescheduled games to Tuesday and Wednesday this season because of COVID, college football seems to be playing it a bit safer. Instead of moving games, they are canceling a lot of them.

Unfortunately for fans, that includes many of the big rivalry games like Michigan vs. Ohio State and now IU vs. Purdue. The Old Oaken Bucket game was supposed to go down this Saturday, but because of rising COVID cases, the schools mutually agreed to call it off according to WTHR.

Indiana Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson and Purdue Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Bobinski released a joint statement with the following:

“We’re certainly disappointed that we had to cancel the Old Oaken Bucket game. We both understand the history and tradition of one of the best rivalries in college football, but the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and staff is our primary priority. We will continue to monitor the situation on both campuses and listen to the advice of our medical professionals.”
