Today in Rock History – March 8

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s March 8th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

We got a bunch of releases today, including No Guts. No Glory. by Airbourne in 2010, The Next Day by David Bowie in 2013, and Queen II from Queen in 1974!

We also saw three self titled debuts! Kansas’ in 1974, Asia’s in 1982 and Foreigner’s in 1977!

And we got two seminal albums of the 90’s released on the same day in 1994! Nine Inch Nails’ The Downward Spiral,

and Superunknown from Soundgarden!

Moving onto birthdays we have Gaz Coombes of Supergrass, Rufus Taylor (the son of Queen’s Roger Taylor) of The Darkness, Randy Meisner of the Eagles and the late Clive Burr of Iron Maiden!

We lost producer George Martin in 2016, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan of the Grateful Dead in 1973, and Mike Starr of Alice in Chains in 2011.

In 2016, AC/DC announce the postponement of the rest of the US leg of their Rock or Bust world tour after singer Brian Johnson was told by doctors he was going deaf. The tour would resume in May of 2016 with GnR singer Axl Rose taking the helm for Johnson until he recovered. Johnson returned to the band in 2019.

In 1974, Bad Company played their first live gig, taking place at Newcastle City Hall in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England.

And finally in 1993, MTV debuted a show about these two idiots:
