Today in Rock History – February 12

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s February 12th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Kicking it off with releases, we’ve got Eat a Peach from the Allman Brothers Band in 1972 and Moving Pictures by Rush in 1981. You were expecting Tom Sawyer weren’t you? Well here’s YYZ instead!

In 1977, Blondie, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and the Ramones ALL appeared at the Whisky a Go Go in L.A. on the same night. What a killer lineup!

In 1990, the Rock for the Rainforest benefit concert takes place in Beverly Hills and included performers Sting, Bruce Springsteen and more.

Speaking of Sting, during a 2007 press conference at the Whiskey a Go Go, he announced that The Police would be getting back together for a world tour

With birthdays today, we have Ray Manzarek of The Doors, Steve Hackett of Genesis and Michael McDonald of The Doobie Brothers. Why the hell are we talking about Michael McDonald anyways? Just so I can play this clip from The 40 Year Old Virgin.

In 2015, “Weird Al” Yankovic became the first ever guest editor for MAD magazine

In 2018, Judas Priest guitarist Glenn Tipton retires from tour due to his Parkinson’s diagnose.

And finally in 2016, Ween reunited for the first of three reunion shows in Colorado. They originally scheduled two shows, but demand was so high that they added a third.

This has been Today in Rock History! Keep on Rocking, keep on Rolling! Check back tomorrow for your next rock history lesson!
