Today in Rock History – February 9

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s February 9th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day with Releases we have Morrison Hotel by The Doors in 1970, Next from Journey in 1977, Burnt Weeny Sandwich from The Mothers of Invention in 1970, Franz Ferdinand’s self-titled debut in 2004 and Where You Been by Dinosaur Jr in 1993!

With Birthdays today, we have Rachel Bolan of Skid Row and the late Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan from Avenged Sevenfold!

We lost Ian McDonald of King Crimson and Foreigner in 2022.

In 2010, after their song Fell In Love With A Girl appeared in a TV ad for the US Air Force, The White Stripes released a statement on their website stating they took “strong insult and objection, with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support.”

In 1974, The Stooges played The Palace in Detroit in what would be their final show. Opening for the band was a young Aerosmith. The Stooges would reunite in 2003.

And finally in 2009, Robert Plant won five Grammys, including Album of the Year, for his collaboration with Alison Krauss.
