Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s January 22nd and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting the day with birthdays, we have The Voice himself, Steve Perry of Journey!
Other birthdays include Vini Lopez of the E Street Band, Michael Hutchence of INXS, Malcolm McLaren the manager of the Sex Pistols and Ben Moody of Evanescence!
We got Elton John’s Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player in 1973!
In 1983, MTV began broadcasting to the West Coast, just two years after launching.
In 1989, Metallica’s first music video debuts. The video for the band’s song One clocks in at 7:44 and incorporates footage from the 1971 film Johnny Got His Gun.
And finally in 2021, The Flaming Lips played the first COVID-protected concert, with audience members enclosed within plastic bubbles like the one frontman Wayne Coyne uses to walk over the crowd.
