Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s January 20th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting the day with birthdays, and holy hell we’ve got a lot of them! First up, we have Paul Stanley of KISS!
Other birthdays include: Ian Hill of Judas Priest, Greg K. of The Offspring, and #0 Sid Wilson of Slipknot!
As well as Matthew Tuck of Bullet for My Valentine, Kevin Park of Tame Impala and Rob Bourdon of Linkin Park!
Moving into releases now, we have Between the Buttons from The Rolling Stones in 1967 and Def Leppard’s Pyromania in 1983!
In 1997, Ben and Jerry’s introduced their new flavor of ice cream named after Phish. Called “Phish Food”, the ingredients include chocolate ice cream, marshmallows, caramel and fish-shaped fudge.
We lost Meat Loaf in 2022 at the age of 74.
And finally, we end the day with THE most storied moment in the history of Ozzy Osbourne, hell in metal history, as it occurred on this day in 1982. While performing in Des Moines, IA, a live bat was thrown onstage by fan. Laying motionless, as it was stunned by the light, Osbourne thought it was a fake that he’s used as a part of his show before. Ozzy picked it up and bit the head off. After realizing it was real as its wings flapped while he was biting down, Ozzy spat out the head of the animal. He would receive a series of rabies shots after being rushed to the hospital after the gig. The story continues to follow Ozzy during his career and 37 years later, Ozzy’s website would begin selling toy bats with removable heads to celebrate the anniversary of the occasion.
