Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s January 3rd and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting the day with birthdays, we have John Paul Jones of Them Crooked Vultures, as well as a little band called Led Zeppelin!
Other birthdays include Stephen Stills of Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash, (& Young) and Kurt Vile of The War on Drugs!
Another birthday today belongs to legendary record producer George Martin, known for his work with Jeff Beck, America, and, of course, The Beatles.
In 2022, David Lee Roth cancels his Las Vegas pre-retirement residency due to an “unforeseen circumstance related to COVID”
Moving onto releases now, we have Wild-Eyed Southern Boys from .38 Special in 1981!
Other releases include Look into the Future from Journey in 1976 and First Impressions of Earth by The Strokes in 2006!
And finally in 1987, Aretha Franklin became the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Despite the enormity of the induction, Franklin was unable to attend the ceremony. Instead, Rolling Stone Keith Richards, Clive Davis and Franklin’s brother Cecil inducted the singer. Her speech was poignant, stating that “To be the first woman inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a historical moment and indeed a milestone in my career…”
