Today in Rock History – December 22

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s December 22nd and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

We lost Joe Strummer of The Clash in 2002 from a suspected heart attack.

We also lost Joe Cocker in 2014 from lung cancer

In 1978, just two months after the death of drummer Keith Moon, The Who found a new drummer in Kenney Jones of the Faces.

One Birthday today and it’s Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick!

Pink Floyd played their last show with Syd Barrett in 1967, taking place at The Olympia in London.

And finally in 1987, Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue was pronounced DOA in an ambulance after he overdosed on heroin after a night out partying with Robbin Crosby of Ratt and Slash of Guns N Roses. After Sixx’s heart stopped beating for two minutes, he was given not one, but TWO shots of adrenaline in his chest, reviving him. Sixx spent the night in the hospital, before being released the next day. To celebrate, he shot up more heroin! This incident would inspire one of Crue’s biggest songs in their catalog.
