Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s December 21st and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting the day with Birthdays, we have Frank Zappa!
Other birthdays include: Murph of Dinosaur Jr, Brett Scallions of Fuel, and Shaun Morgan of Seether!
We got Ridin’ the Storm Out from REO Speedwagon in 1973.
In 2007, we got the greatest musician biopic of all time, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
In 2005, Elton John and his partner David Furnish take part in a civil ceremony as gay marriage was not legal in England. On the same day, in 2014, with gay marriage legal in England, John and Furnish get married.
And finally in 1970, a limousine pulled up outside the White House in Washington, D.C. with a guest wanted to speak with President Richard Nixon on how they could help fight the war on drugs. After the President agreed to meet the guest, they entered the Oval Office wearing a purple velvet suit, a large belt buckle, and brandishing a Colt .45 pistol to gift to Nixon. Alright enough playing, the guest was Elvis Presley. Elvis showed up to not only speak about the issue of drugs in America, but also counterculture and the collective hatred of The Beatles between the two. Elvis bashing drugs you say? Look how that turned out for the King. The image of the two had become of the most requested when it appeared in our National Archives and the meeting even inspired film adaptations.
