Today in Rock History – December 19

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s December 19th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

It’s a short and sweet kind of day, so let’s start with birthdays as we have Doug Johnson of Loverboy!

In 1975, Ronnie Wood joins the Rolling Stones almost a year to the day former Stones guitarist Mick Taylor departed the band.

We lost Michael Clarke of The Byrds in 1993 from liver failure as well as Rob Buck of the 10,000 Maniacs in 2000 from liver disease.

And finally in 1991, while walking home after attending a Hole show at the Whiskey a Go Go with Henry Rollins, roadie Joe Cole, was held up at gunpoint alongside Rollins outside an all-night grocery store. The two gunmen approached and demanded money from the two men. After only finding $50 between them, the gunmen ordered Rollins and Cole to go inside their house for more cash. Rollins entered, but Cole was shot in the face at close range after Rollins escaped and alerted the police. The murder has remained unsolved. Tributes for Cole came from across the LA music scene and he was remembered in two Sonic Youth songs from their album Dirty.
