Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s December 18th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting with birthdays today, we have the one, the only, a man that has had more drugs in his body than a pharmacy, we have Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones!
Also on this day, on Richard’s 38th birthday and fan rushed the stage during a Stone’s concert. To protect himself and his bandmates, Keith bashes the man with his guitar. As security takes the fan away, Keith straps back on his guitar and continued to play. Talk about a baller move.
Other birthdays include Elliot Easton of The Cars, DJ Lethal of Limp Bizkit, and Maria Brink of In This Moment!
Moving onto releases now, we got T. Rex’s self-titled album in 1970. This would be the band’s fifth album but the first to use their new name T. Rex after originally calling themselves Tyrannosaurus Rex.
A year later in 1971, their album Electric Warrior helped the band score their first No.1 album in the UK while their song Bang a Gong would become the band’s sole US Top Ten hit.
And finally in 1998, Alice Cooper opened his Cooper’stown restaurant in Phoenix, AZ and to celebrate Cooper performed with original bandmates Michael Bruce and Neal Smith for the first time in 24 years. The restaurant would close in 2017.
