Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s December 7th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting the day with birthdays and we’ve got the greatest guitar of the modern era: Nita Strauss!
Other birthdays include Gem Archer of Oasis, Phil Cunningham of New Order and Dominic Howard of Muse!
In 2014, Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon returned to the charts again for the first time since 2009 when it hit No.13 thanks to a sale on the Google Play store when the classic album was discounted for just 99-cents. This appearance would add to the mythical number of non-consecutive weeks the album has appeared on the Billboard Charts. As of May 2024, the record totals at 990 non-consecutive weeks.
We lost Greg Lake of both King Crimson and Emerson Lake & Palmer in 2016 at the age of 69.
In 1995, after the death of Jerry Garcia that August, the Grateful Dead announced their break up.
And finally in 2019, after the Musonia School of Music in Hollywood was robbed on Thanksgiving night, Ozzy Osbourne offered $25,000 reward to anyone who would return the stolen instruments previously owned by his late guitarist Randy Rhoads. The instruments included Rhoads’ first electric guitar, a 1963 Harmony Rocket, an a rare Marshall prototype specifically made for Rhoads.
