Today in Rock History – November 17

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s November 17th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day with releases, John Lennon released Double Fantasy on this day in 1980. A few weeks later, he would shot and killed outside his home in New York.

Other releases include From the Inside from Alice Cooper in 1978, Let it Be… Naked by The Beatles in 2003 and Americana from The Offspring in 1998!

In 1987, Metallica released their first home video, Cliff ‘Em All. The video is comprised of both pro and fan filmed performances of bass player Cliff Burton before his untimely death in a tour bus accident.

With birthdays we have Jeff Buckley!

Other birthdays include East Bay Ray of the Dead Kennedys, Richard Fortus of Guns N Roses, and Martin Barre of Jethro Tull!

And finally in 1988, while being called “Hard-Rock Heroes”, Guns N Roses steal away the cover of Rolling Stone magazine from Aerosmith, who were the headliners of the tour that the bands were currently on. Aerosmith thought they would get the cover, but GNR became much more popular.
