Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 26th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting the day off on a sadder note as we lost legendary concert promoter Bill Graham in a helicopter crash in 1991. Graham booked some legendary venues on the west coast like The Fillmore and played a major role in the rise of many legendary artists, like The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Band, The Rolling Stones and Santana!
Moving onto releases now, we got Quadrophenia from The Who in 1973!
Other releases include Freeze-Frame by The J. Geils Band in 1981, the MTV Unplugged album from 10,000 Maniacs in 1993, and Midnight Madness from Night Ranger in 1983!
And in 1999, we got The Science of Things from Bush, No. 4 by Stone Temple Pilots and Incubus’ breakthrough album Make Yourself!
Birthdays today, we have: Natalie Merchant of 10,000 Maniacs, Jeff Pinkus of the Butthole Surfers, Keith Strickland of The B-52’s, and Josh Portman of Yellowcard!
In 2010, Ozzy Osbourne had a genome sequence test done and his results were revealed. The test showed that Ozzy had a very high tendency for alcohol and cocaine addiction (shocking), and that he was partly descended from Neanderthals (neat)
And finally in 2019, the green sweater worn by Kurt Cobain during Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged special was sold at auction for $334,000. The sweater was given to the Cobain’s family nanny by Courtney Love after Cobain passed, who sold the sweater to pay for cancer treatments.
