Today in Rock History – October 22nd

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 22nd and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting off in 1990, while at the Off Ramp in Seattle, Mookie Blaylock played their first concert together. They would soon be known as Pearl Jam.

Moving into releases, we got two from Zeppelin, their live album The Song Remains the Same in 1976 and Led Zeppelin II in 1969!

Other releases include Hotter Than Hell from KISS in 1974, Night Moves from Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band in 1976,

And in 2002, we got Spend the Night from The Donnas and the Foo Fighters’ One by One!

In 2003, while in the middle of Evanescence’s first world tour after the success of their debut album Fallen, founder and guitarist Ben Moody quit the band.

Moving onto birthdays, we have Stiv Bators of the Dead Boys!

We also have Darryl Jenifer of Bad Brains, Cris Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets, Leslie West of Mountain, Greg Hawkes of The Cars and Bobby Blotzer of Ratt!

After his parents rented an accordion from a door-to-door salesman in 1966, a seven-year-old Al Yankovic took his first lesson on the instrument. He would later use the instrument to record his first hit, in a college radio bathroom.

And finally in 2000, while at a local festival to help support their hometown of Athens, Georgia, R.E.M. returned to play three songs on the steps of the city’s courthouse.
