Today in Rock History – October 21st

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 21st and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

In 2001, The Concert For New York City took place in Madison Square Garden to help raise money for victims of the 9/11 attacks and their families. On the bill that night included Paul McCartney, Elton John, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, The Who, and NYC’s own Billy Joel.

We lost Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon in 1995 of a drug overdose.

We also lost Sandy West of The Runaways in 2006 of lung cancer.

In 1976, The Who finished their North American tour in Toronto and it would mark the band’s final show with drummer Keith Moon before his death two years later.

In a complete tonal shift, it’s Brent Mydland of the Grateful Dead’s birthday!

Moving onto releases, we got Meat Loaf’s breakout debut record Bat Out of Hell in 1977!

Other releases include: Man on the Run from Bush in 2014, The Car from the Arctic Monkeys in 2022, Slipknot’s .5: The Gray Chapter in 2014, I Prevail’s Lifeline in 2016 and Leftoverture from Kansas in 1976! Time to make Supernatural fans cry

And finally in 1995, (and what a way to end today) after mooning the audience at a Green Day gig in Milwaukee, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is arrested and fined $141.
