Today in Rock History – October 19th

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 19th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Stating the day in 1980, as just months after the death of frontman Bon Scott earlier that year, AC/DC made their triumphant return to the stage with new vocalist Brian Johnson.

Birthdays today include Thundercat and Pete Loeffler of Chevelle

Oh, it’s also Trey Parker from South Park’s birthday. Queue Come Sail Away

It’s an amazing day for same day releases! Starting in 1979, we got Prince from Prince, Cornerstone from Styx and Damn the Torpedoes from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers!

In 1973, we got Burnin’ by Bob Marley and the Wailers, Pin Ups by David Bowie and The Joker from The Steve Miller Band!

And in 2018, we got Evolution from Disturbed and Anthem of the Peaceful Army by Greta Van Fleet!

Stop Making Sense, the now iconic concert film featuring the Talking Heads, was released in theaters in 1984.

Also in the video realm of music, possibly one of the most iconic music videos of all time released on MTV in 1985.

We lost Glen Buxton of Alice Cooper in 1997 from pneumonia.

We also lost Raphael Ravenscroft in 2014. Who’s that? Well he’s known for possibly the greatest rock saxophone lick of all time!

And finally, while performing at a Nirvana show in Texas in 1991, Kurt Cobain gets into a brawl with a bouncer. The altercation began when Cobain, who was crowd surfing, was shoved Cobain back into the crowd by the face. Cobain responds by driving the butt of his guitar into the bouncer’s face. Cobain would get punched in the back of his head while his bandmates jump in the help him.
