Today in Rock History – October 9th

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 9th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day off with birthdays and what a way to start it, with John Lennon of The Beatles!

Speaking of John, five years after his death, on what would have been his 45th birthday, three and a half acre section of Central Park in New York City is dedicated to Lennon. Christened “Strawberry Fields”, the area becomes a garden with trees, shrubs and flowers from across the world planted there.

Other birthdays today include John Entwistle of The Who, Al Jourgensen of Ministry, and Terry Balsamo of Cold and Evanescence!

Oh, and its also Sharon Osbourne’s birthday. Say it with me now:

Moving onto releases now, we got Bruce Springsteen’s Tunnel of Love in 1987 and Killing Machine (in the U.S. Hell Bent for Leather) from Judas Priest in 1978!

And finally in 2006, during the final week of CBGB’s operation, the Bad Brains began a three-night residency at the famed club. In the crowd that night included Ric Ocasek of The Cars, Elijah Wood, and Richard Hell of Television. To honor both the Brains and CBGB, here’s their full 1982 performance for you to enjoy.
