Today in Rock History – October 7th

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 7th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day off, as Spotify launched in 2008. The most streamed song on the platform that year was The Killers’ song Human. The company would become a juggernaut in music streaming within the next few years, boasting over 180 million active users and over 40 million songs by 2018.

Moving into releases, we got both True Stories from Talking Heads and Slayer’s Reign in Blood in 1986!

Other releases include Bush’s The Art of Survival in 2022, So Much for the Afterglow from Everclear in 1997, and Rise Against’s Appeal to Reason in 2008

We also got Get Lucky from Loverboy in 1981 and both Sum 41’s 13 Voices and Green Day’s Revolution Radio in 2016

In 1982, Jimmy Page is given a one-year suspended sentence for cocaine possession.

Moving onto birthdays, we have Thom Yorke of Radiohead!

Other birthdays include Tico Torres of Bon Jovi, Nathaniel Rateliff of the Night Sweats, and John Mellencamp

And finally in 2016, the first night of the six-day Desert Trip festival began in Indio, CA. Dubbed “Oldchella,” the festival featured an all-star classic rock lineup including the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Roger Waters and The Who. The festival would go on to earn $160 million, making it the highest earning music festival ever.
