Today in Rock History – October 2

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s October 2nd and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

A week after wrapping up The Heartbreaker’s 40th anniversary tour, we lost Tom Petty in 2017 from accidental mixed drug toxicity at the age of 66.

In 1967, all six members of the Grateful Dead were arrested at the group’s 710 Ashbury Street home in San Francisco after narcotics agents found they were in possession of marijuana.

Moving onto birthdays now, we have #4 Jim Root of Slipknot and Stone Sour and Bud Gaugh of Sublime!

We also have Richard Hell of Television, Roman Ibramkhalilov of Jinjer, Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes, and Sting

It’s a big day for Sting and The Police as we also saw the release of Ghost in the Machine in 1981!

Other releases include Atom Heart Mother from Pink Floyd in 1970, Radiohead’s Kid A in 2000, Freedom from Neil Young in 1989 and Oasis’ (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? in 1995.

A 1996 Pearl Jam show ended in chaos when a giant brawl broke out among the 30,000 crowd.

And finally in 1982, to help pay off debts accrued during his WOMAD tour, Peter Gabriel joins his former Genesis bandmates for a concert at the Milton Keynes Bowl.
