Today in Rock History – September 30

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s September 30th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting the day in 2016, as a Philadelphia elementary school student skipped class to meet his musical hero at a book signing at the Free Library of Philadelphia. The boy returned to class the next day with an absence note signed by music icon, Bruce Springsteen. The kid got off scot free.

It’s Trey Anastasio of Phish’s birthday!

Other birthdays include John Lombardo of 10,000 Maniacs, Gibby Haynes of the Butthole Surfers, and Marc Bohn of T. Rex

We got the School of Rock soundtrack in 2003

And finally in 1974, police were called during a Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blue Oyster Cult concert after a fight broke out between each of the band’s sound engineers. There was much debate as to why the fight broke out, but the consensus was due to Skynyrd’s sound being turned down during their set. And it was supposedly during Free Bird. Yikes
