Today in Rock History – September 24

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s September 24th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

I think there’s really only one way to begin today, as in 1991, Nirvana released their sophomore effort and probably the biggest grunge album in the history of rock, Nevermind.

Also released on the same day as Nevermind in ’91 were Bryan Adams’ Waking Up the Neighbors and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Blood Sugar Sex Magik

This amazing day for record releases doesn’t stop there as we also got T. Rex’s Electric Warrior in 1971, Pinkerton from Weezer in 1996, The Long Run from the Eagles in 1979

As well as Rush’s Caress of Steel in 1975 and in 1990 we got both Megadeth’s Rust in Peace and AC/DC’s The Razors Edge.

In 1998, Steven Adler, the former Guns N Roses drummer, was sentenced to 150 days in jail for domestic violence as well as violating his probation for an earlier domestic violence conviction.

Dazed and Confused premiered in theaters in 1993

Moving onto birthdays, we have Jesse Hughes of the Eagles of Death Metal and #6 Shawn “Clown” Crahan of Slipknot

In 1988, Lou Reed returns to CBGB to play alongside the Tom Tom Club, including the Velvet Underground song Femme Fatale, which was at the time recently re-recorded by Tom Tom Club.

And finally in 1966, while only wearing the clothes on his back, Jimi Hendrix arrived in London after a flight from New York City with his manager Chas Chandler. One of the first things he did after arriving in jolly ol’ England was change his name from James to Jimi.
