Today in Rock History – September 6

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s September 6th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting off birthdays today with the ever controversial Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.

Other birthdays include Scott Travis of Judas Priest, William DuVall of Alice in Chains, and Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age!

It’s also the birthday of the late Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries

Moving onto releases now, we got Rocka Rolla from Judas Priest in 1974, Bad Religion’s Stranger Than Fiction in 1994, AM from the Arctic Monkeys in 2013 and Let Love Rule from Lenny Kravitz in 1989

We lost Tom Fogerty of CCR at the age of 48 from tuberculosis

In 1987, 10 years after the horrific plane crash that killed members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, the band’s surviving members reunited at the Volunteer Jam. The reception went so well, they went on a tour that they would dub the “Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Tour”. Taking the lead singer position was Ronnie Van Zant’s little brother Johnny.

At the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards, Motley Crue lead singer Vince Neil gets into a fight with Guns N Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin. Why? Because Neil claimed that Izzy got physical with his wife at a club in L.A.

And finally in 1970, the Jimi Hendrix Experience played together for the final time at the Open Air Love & Peace Festival in Germany. Two weeks later, Hendrix would die.
