Today in Rock History – August 29

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s August 29th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

While performing at the 2000 Kerrang! Awards, Slipknot decided to cause some mayhem by smashing glasses, setting their table on fire, and destroying stage equipment. They would go on to win 3 awards that night, including best stage act.

And speaking of award shows, JET took home the Best Rock Video award at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards for their song Are You Gonna Be My Girl.

Moving onto birthdays, we have GG Allin, David Desrosiers of Simple Plan, and Sterling Morrison of The Velvet Underground

We saw the release of Rush’s A Farewell to Kings in 1977 and Definitely Maybe from Oasis in 1994

And finally, speaking of 1994, during the Meat Puppets opening set at a Stone Temple Pilots show in New York City, shock jock Howard Stern crashed the party by joining the Puppets on stage to jam on Lake of Fire with the band.

This has been Today in Rock History! Keep on Rocking, keep on Rolling! Check back tomorrow for your next rock history lesson!
