Today in Rock History – August 16

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s August 16th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting off with releases, we got TWO Chili Peppers albums on this day with both Freaky Styley in ’85 and Mother’s Milk in ’89!

In 1974, the Ramones debuted at the now legendary CBGB’s club in New York City.

It’s Scott Asheton of The Stooges and Bob Hardy of Franz Ferdinand’s birthdays today

The second day of Woodstock began today in 1969. The bill included Santana, Grateful Dead, The Who, and CCR. During The Who’s set, notorious hippie leader Abbie Hoffman was knocked offstage with a guitar by Pete Townshend while making a political statement. The Who guitarist later said he didn’t know it was Hoffman at the time.

And finally in 1986, Rick Allen returned to the kit and made his first live appearance with his Def Leppard bandmates almost 2 years after losing his arm in a car accident. Allen has continued to play with the band with a modified drum kit with electronic foot pedals
