Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s August 6th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!
Starting off with releases, we got Songs and Music from “She’s the One” from Petty and the Heartbreakers in 1996 and The Beatles gave us Help! in 1965.
Moving onto birthdays now, we have Vinnie Vincent of KISS and Ryan Martinie of Mudvayne!
We also saw the birth of legendary pop-artist and sometime music manager, Andy Warhol! His mark on music would involve managing The Velvet Underground for a time and the designer of the Stones’ Sticky Fingers album cover.
In 1982, the film adaption of Pink Floyd’s The Wall opened in New York City. Despite being only available in one theater, the film grossed $68,000 in its first weekend before expanding to theatres across the States, grossing $22m.
And finally in 1996, the Ramones played their final concert ever at the Palace in Hollywood. The show featured guest appearances from Lemmy, Eddie Vedder, and Dee Dee Ramone. It was also recorded and released a year later as We’re Outta Here! Video of the concert was released officially alongside the album, but has become a rarity nowadays. Luckily the internet exists and people have uploaded clips and the full documentary online.
