Today in Rock History – August 3

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s August 3rd and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting off strong with birthdays with the one and only James Hetfield of Metallica!

Other birthdays include: Ed Roland of Collective Soul, Lee Rocker of Stray Cats, Martin Atkins of Nine Inch Nails, and Stephen Carpenter of Deftones!

Oh and a special birthday shout out to the late B.B. Dickerson of War. Cue George Lopez!

Moving onto releases now and we’re kicking it off with a bang! The historic Hysteria from Def Leppard released in 1987

CCR’s Green River in 1969 and both Down to Earth by Rainbow and Fear of Music by Talking Heads in 1979!

Paul McCartney formed Wings in 1971 with his wife Linda and former Moody Blues member Denny Laine.

Brian May of Queen finally handed in his astronomy PhD thesis in 2007- some 36 years after quitting the program to join Queen.

In 1991, Pearl Jam perform at the RKCNDY club in Seattle. The show was filmed and used for their first music video for their song Alive!

In 2016, Modest Mouse singer Isaac Brock caused a 5-vehicle accident after falling asleep behind the wheel and crashed into a pickup. Luckily no injuries were reported.

We started with Metallica, we’re gonna end with Metallica! In 1991, the band held a listening party at Madison Square Garden to celebrate the release of The Black Album. In attendance that night were Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic and Kurt Cobain.
